How to Turn Screenshots Into a Single PDF

To turn a screenshot to PDF, add your screenshots to the PDFNova Image to PDF tool, drag them into time order, choose fit-to-image as the page size and download one PDF. Every screenshot becomes a page, so a whole conversation, order history or set of payment confirmations ends up in a single file.

Screenshots are the quickest way to save what is on a screen, but they are a poor way to send it. Ten loose images arrive out of order, get compressed in chats and are hard to print. A single PDF fixes all three problems, and it takes about a minute to make.

When you need screenshots as a PDF

  • Proof of payment. Transfer confirmations and wallet receipts for a seller, landlord, school or accounts office.
  • Conversations as a record. Messages you need to show to support staff, an employer or an adviser.
  • Online orders and bookings. Tickets, order pages and delivery tracking saved before they expire.
  • Study material. Slides from an online class or pages from a web article collected for revision.
  • Bug reports and feedback. A sequence of screens that shows exactly what happened.

If the screenshots are meant as evidence in a dispute or legal matter, ask the organisation involved what form they accept. Requirements differ by country and institution, and this article is general information only.

Step 1: take screenshots that convert well

A little care while capturing saves editing later.

  • Overlap slightly. When capturing a long chat or page, let the last line of one screenshot appear at the top of the next. The reader can then see that nothing was skipped.
  • Keep dates and names visible where they matter, such as the contact name and the time of a payment.
  • Clear the clutter. Pull down nothing, close pop-ups and wait for notification banners to disappear before you capture.
  • Use the same zoom and orientation for the whole set so pages look consistent.
  • Capture in order. Start at the beginning and move forward. Your gallery will then already be in sequence.

Step 2: convert the screenshot to PDF

  1. Open Image to PDF in the browser on the device that holds the screenshots.
  2. Add the screenshots. Select all of them together. Screenshots are normally PNG or JPG files, and both are supported.
  3. Check the order. Drag the thumbnails so the earliest screen is first. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that matters most.
  4. Choose the page size. Fit-to-image is the best choice for most screenshots. See the comparison below.
  5. Set margins. None for screen reading, a small margin if the file will be printed.
  6. Create and download. One PDF is saved directly to your device.

PDFNova processes files in your browser, so your documents are not uploaded to a server. Screenshots often show balances, phone numbers and private messages, so keeping them on your own device is the safer way to work.

Fit-to-image or A4 for screenshots

Setting How it looks Choose it when
Fit-to-image Each page is exactly the shape of the screenshot, with no white bands The PDF will be read on a phone or computer
A4 or Letter, portrait A tall phone screenshot sits in the middle with white space on both sides The file will be printed or must be a standard document size
A4 or Letter, landscape A wide computer screenshot fills the page You are printing desktop captures or slides

Phone screens are much narrower than paper. On an A4 page, a phone screenshot is scaled to fit the height, so the text can look small. That is normal. If the receiver insists on A4, it is still readable, but fit-to-image is more comfortable on screens.

Step 3: remove private details properly

Before you share, look at every page for information that the receiver does not need: other chats in a list, account balances, card digits, email addresses, a notification from someone else.

The simplest fix is to crop the screenshot in your gallery before converting. If the detail sits in the middle of the content, convert first and then use Redact PDF to draw black boxes over it. The redacted pages are flattened, so the hidden content is actually removed, not just covered. Apply the redaction, download the new file and open it again to confirm that nothing sensitive is left.

Redaction is for protecting privacy. Do not use it, or any editing, to change what a conversation or receipt appears to say. Altered records can cause serious trouble for you.

Handling long scrolling screenshots

Many phones can capture a whole scrolling page as one very tall image. These are convenient, but they convert badly to fixed pages: forced onto A4, the text shrinks until it cannot be read.

You have two good options. Use fit-to-image, which produces one very tall page that people can scroll on screen. Or, if the result must be printable, take ordinary screen-by-screen captures instead, with a small overlap, so each page stays at a readable size.

Finishing touches

  • Add page numbers. With a long set, Page Numbers lets you write “see page 6” in your message. Formats such as “Page 1 of 12” are available.
  • Reduce the size. If the PDF is too heavy to send, Compress PDF shows the before and after size. Check in the preview that small text remains sharp.
  • Name the file. Include what it is and the date, for example “rent-payment-march-proof”.
  • Open it once. Scroll through every page before sending.

Need the opposite direction?

Sometimes people screenshot a PDF page just to get a picture of it. There is a cleaner way. Exporting the page gives a full, sharp image without toolbars or cut-off edges. Frequently asked questions

How do I combine multiple screenshots into one PDF?

Select all the screenshots at once in the tool, arrange the thumbnails in order and create the file. You get a single PDF with one screenshot per page.

How do I save a screenshot as a PDF on my phone?

Open a browser-based image to PDF tool, choose the screenshot from your gallery, pick fit-to-image and download. No app installation is needed on Android or iPhone.

Why is my screenshot blurry in the PDF?

Usually because it was received through a chat app that reduced its quality, or because a tall image was squeezed onto a small page. Use the original screenshot from the device that took it and choose fit-to-image.

Can I convert WhatsApp chat screenshots to PDF?

Yes. They are ordinary image files in your gallery. Capture the chat in order with a small overlap, add the images and create one PDF.

Capture in order, fit the page to the image and check for private details. Then open Image to PDF and turn your screenshots into one file that is easy to send and easy to read.
