To convert an image to A4 PDF, open Image to PDF, add your photo, choose A4 as the page size, pick portrait or landscape and download the file. The picture is placed on a standard A4 page, so it prints properly and passes upload forms that expect normal document pages.
The page size matters more than most people expect. If you simply save a phone photo as a PDF, the page often takes the shape of the photo. It looks fine on screen, but a printer may shrink it, cut it or leave strange borders, and some portals reject pages with unusual dimensions.
What A4 size means for a PDF
A4 is the standard paper size in most of the world, including Pakistan, India, the Middle East, Europe and much of Asia and Africa. It measures 210 by 297 millimetres. The United States and Canada mostly use Letter, which is slightly wider and shorter.
A phone photo has a different shape from A4. So when a picture goes onto an A4 page, there is always a decision to make: either the whole image is shown with some white space around it, or it is cropped to fill the sheet. For documents, showing the whole image is nearly always right, because nothing gets cut off.
Convert an image to A4 PDF in a few steps
- Open the Image to PDF tool on your phone, tablet or computer.
- Add one or more images. JPG and PNG files are supported, including screenshots.
- Set the page size to A4. The other choices are Letter and fit-to-image.
- Choose portrait for tall pictures or landscape for wide ones.
- Set the margins. A small margin is the safe choice if the page will be printed.
- If you added several images, drag them into the right order.
- Create the PDF and download it to your device.
PDFNova processes files in your browser, so your documents are not uploaded to a server. It is free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark.
Portrait or landscape, margins or no margins
| Your image | Orientation | Margins |
|---|---|---|
| Photo of a letter, certificate or mark sheet held upright | Portrait | Small margin, so a printer does not clip the edges |
| Wide screenshot, landscape certificate, chart or slide | Landscape | Small margin |
| Poster or artwork meant to fill the page | Match the artwork | No margin, but expect a thin white edge on most home printers |
| Phone screenshot of a chat or payment receipt | Portrait | Normal margin. The image is narrow, so it will sit in the middle of the page |
Most home and office printers cannot print right up to the paper edge. If your image has text near the border, a margin protects it.
Prepare the picture first for a cleaner page
The PDF can only look as good as the image you put in. Two minutes of preparation saves a rejected upload later.
- Crop out the background. Remove the desk, the floor and your fingers in the gallery editor, so the document fills the A4 page.
- Rotate it upright. A sideways photo becomes a sideways page.
- Use good light. Take the photo near a window, without flash glare and without your own shadow on the paper.
- Hold the phone flat above the page. An angled shot makes the paper look like a trapezoid.
- Do not use a tiny image. A small thumbnail stretched over A4 looks blocky. Use the original photo where you can.
If you are photographing paper right now, the Camera Scanner may suit you better. It finds the page edges, straightens the perspective and offers colour, grayscale and black and white filters. For an identity card, the ID Card Scan tool puts the front and back on one A4 page at real card size, ready to print.
Common mistakes with A4 photo PDFs
The picture looks small on the page
The image shape is very different from A4, for example a long screenshot, or the orientation is wrong. Switch between portrait and landscape, reduce the margin, and crop empty areas from the picture.
The printout is cut at the edges
The margin is too small for your printer, or the print dialog is scaling the page. Add a margin in the tool and choose a “fit to page” option when printing.
The file is too big to upload
Phone photos are heavy, and a PDF made from several of them can be large. Shrink it with Compress PDF, using the slider and preview to keep the text readable. Check the limit shown on the upload page.
The form asked for Letter, not A4
Simply build the PDF again with Letter selected. Always follow the size the receiving organisation names.
Several images, mixed files and text
You can add many pictures in one go, and each becomes its own A4 page. That works well for a multi-page assignment or a set of receipts. When you also have existing PDFs to include, such as a typed form plus photographed attachments, see how to combine PDFs and images into one file.
Keep in mind that a photo on a page is still a photo. If your content is typed text, such as class notes or a cover letter, it is better to create a real text PDF, which is lighter, sharper and searchable. The guide on turning typed notes into a clean PDF shows that route. And if you later need the words out of an image-based document, read how to copy text from a PDF that will not let you.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a JPG to an A4 size PDF on my phone?
Open the Image to PDF tool in your phone browser, add the JPG from your gallery, select A4 and download. No app is needed.
Will converting to A4 stretch or distort my image?
No. The image keeps its proportions and is scaled to sit inside the page. Any leftover space stays white.
What is the difference between A4 and fit-to-image?
A4 gives every page the same standard paper size. Fit-to-image makes each page exactly the shape of its picture, which is fine for screen reading but unpredictable for printing.
Can I put two images on one A4 page?
The tool places one image per page. To get two on one sheet, join them into a single picture in a photo collage or gallery editor first, then convert that picture.
Pick A4, set the orientation and margin, and Image to PDF will give you a standard page that prints and uploads without surprises.
